DESPERATE FOR JESUS WHEN HE’S YOUR ONLY HOPE

Desperation has a sound. It is the resp of a dying man, pushing words through dry lips and searing pain. "Jesus, remember me when you come into your kingdom." One sentence from a condemned criminal, one answer from a crucified King, and eternity changes: "Truly I tell you, today you will be with Me in paradise."

The scene could not be darker: Nails have done their work—Crowds have had their laugh; Rome has made its point. Two criminals hang beside Jesus, both equally guilty, both equally near the Savior, but only one turns his desperation into a place for mercy. He has nothing to offer—no record to polish, no future to promise, no deal to make. He cannot come down and “do better.” He can only look over and whisper the simplest of prayers: "Remember me."

This is the where trying ends and trusting starts. The thief brings empty hands and a busted, broken life, and Jesus meets him not with a lecture, but with a promise.

Imagine the scene: The mocking thief hurls insults; the repentant thief hurls himself on mercy. One uses his final breathe to curse, the other uses his to confess. One dies as he lived—clenched fists and hard heart. The other dies with opened hands and a newly opened future.

Here the gospel stands on tiptoe so we cannot miss it. He cannot join a church, sign a card, or fix his past. All he can do is look to the bleeding Savior beside him—and that is enough.

Every word of Jesus’ answer is a lifeline:
"truly" – No guesswork, no maybe, just certainty.
"today" – Not someday when you’ve proven yourself.
"with Me" – Not just a place, but a person.
"In Paradise" – The door back into the presence of God. This is not a verse for theologians to argue over punctuation. It is a promise for sinners who have run out of options.

This week we will step into that grim hilltop and stand between those two crosses. Which thief tells your story right now? The one who hides fear behind sarcasm, or the one who finally stops pretending and cries out?

Desperate For Jesus When He Is Your Only Hope   will trace the journey of the repentant thief from mocking to surrender. It will highlight the heart of a Savior who listens to the weakest prayer. It will call every weary, church-tired, self-condemning heart to trade "I'll fix it" for "Jesus, remember me."

Some come to Jesus at children’s camp. Some come in midlife crisis. And some, like the thief, come with only minutes left on the clock. Wherever you fall, the invitation is the same—When Jesus is your only hope you will find what the thief found on that terrible, beautiful day.

Your worst moment is not stronger than His final words. And when you are desperate for Jesus, you discover He has been desperate to save you all along.

It all begins at 7:00 a.m. and wraps up by 8:00 at our gathering spot:
Hall & Hound Brewing Co.,
1920 Freedom Pkwy., Cumming, GA. 30041.
Doors open at 6:30, coffee and light refreshments are available.

I hope to see you there!

Key Bible Verses

Key Verses:

32 “Two others, who were criminals, were also led away to be executed with Jesus. 33 When they came to the place called The Skull, they crucified Him there, along with the criminals, one on Hi right and the other on His left. 34 Then Jesus said, ‘Father, forgive them, for they do not know what they are doing.’ And they divided up His garments by casting lots. 35 The people stood watching, and the rulers sneered at Him, saying, ‘He saved others; let Him save Himself if He is the Christ of God, the Chosen One.’ 36 The soldiers also mocked Him and came up to offer Him sour wine. 37 ‘If you are the King of the Jews, ‘they said, ‘save Yourself!’ 38 Above Him was posted an inscription:

THIS IS THE KING OF THE JEWS.

39 One of the criminals who hung there heaped abuse on Him. ‘Are You not the Christ?’ he said. ‘Save Yourself and us!’ 40 But the other one rebuked him, saying, ‘Do you not even fear God, since you are under the same judgment? 41 We are punished justly, for we are receiving what our actions deserve. But this man has done nothing wrong.’ 42 Then he said, ‘Jesus, remember me when You come into Your kingdom!’
43 And Jesus said to him, ‘Truly I tell you, today you will be with Me in Paradise.’”
- Luke 23:32-43

7 He who has an ear, let him hear what the Spirit says to the churches. To the one who overcomes, I will grant the right to eat from the tree of life in the Paradise of God.
– Revelation 2:7

8 We are confident, the, and would prefer to be away from the body and at home with the Lord.
